This is my first book on how to navigate social security. The author, Devin Carr, has generously shared insights that is informative; building a reassuring foundation to launch into the unknowns of a daunting Social Security maze. He gives many keen scenarios and samples which further enhances your understanding into social security. I am breathing a great sigh of relief after reading this book. Social security does not have to be so scary after all. I walk away more knowledgeable instead of applying a guesswork or hearsay approach. I feel certain that "Social Security Basics" will continued to be utilized as an invaluable reference book for me; especially as I get closer to making future social security decisions. I highly recommend this book!
I didn't think I'd be interested in a book about Social Security. First of all, my plans are to save and invest so I don't have to rely on SS. But I've been learning ancillary things from his podcast, Big Picture Retirement. Now I can see there is even more information in his book.The beauty of having this as a Kindle book is I can click on each chapter and go right to that section quickly. The chapters aren't too long and are easy to read. Thank you Devin for making a complicated, complex topic easy to understand.
I have a finance background and yet Social security is really confusing. If you are getting close to retirement this is a great guide and can prevent you from making bad decisions.

I've been listening to his podcast (Big Picture Retirement) and referring to the ss articles he's written on his website, so having everything together in this book was just great.The chapter about how people's ss can get taxed and how spousal benefits work is very valuable.He's right that we all need to be knowledgeable about our ss choices and this book certainly makes it easier to accomplish.
This book completely changed my thinking in regards to the date my wife and I will apply for and begin to receive Social Security. It's obvious Devin knows his stuff and I have become a huge fan of his podcast in addition to this book. this book was a quick read - not a lot of detail but enough to keep you turning the page. Some good info and confirmation of SSA knowledge. All in all a good book but after reading I need to know more and some more examples of situations couples find them selves in would be beneficial.
Some people may find this book helpful but if you do your own research you will learn the same things. This book is more about choices you can make .
